THE LAW OF ATTRACTION VS EXECUTION

There’s a lot of hubbub in the world of personal development, so really… the world, on the law of attraction. There is no doubt that if you have looked at any outside material on how to improve yourself you’ve seen a fair amount of it. What about execution? We’ll get to that. There are many people who swear by this law and also probably an equal amount who think it’s a hot load of crap. The website, http://www.thelawofattraction.com, defines this law as, “…the ability to attract into our lives whatever we are focusing on.” It knows no boundaries such as age, nationality, or religious belief, as it is thought to be an inherent law of the Universe.

When someone finds out about the law of attraction and subscribe to that notion, what is often the trap, people assume you can focus really, really hard on what you want and one day it’s going to fall into your lap. Sometimes that happens, but more often than not it doesn’t. At that point, one usually goes back to their old way of haphazardly focusing on just about anything and is more prone to think negatively. You can notice it happen quite often, definitely an odd sort of dance that people do on their self-improvement journey.

The law of attraction is all well and good, but it’s only part of the equation! We can’t forget about execution! Execution is the carrying out or putting into effect of a plan, order, or course of action. It is undoubtedly the motive force of achievement. If the American Dream is a big beautiful apple pie then using only the law of attraction without execution is like trying to bake it by looking at it with the utmost intensity and scrunching up our faces while doing so. In order to bake that pie you need to put some energy into it and execution brings the heat! That being said, executing will likely get you much further and generate more successes than just focusing on something. So, if you’re just going to do one or the other for the sake of all that is awesome learn how to execute. Ideally, we want to be firing on all cylinders. You can’t get exactly what you want out of life just half-assing things, so I’m going to tell you that the law of attraction is extremely important once you make the commitment to learning how to execute.

The law of attraction is deeply rooted in having a positive mind set. That is unless you want negative things in your life, if that’s the case, by all means, you can stop reading now. This law is strange in that you’ve probably experienced it many times before without taking note of it, though once you recognize what is going on there is no going back. There’s so much happening all around us all the time. Each little thing, sound, smell, movement, creating an event, this is all information for the mind to process. Though if we try to process it all at once, at times, it can become overwhelming. If only we had some sort of filter to help us focus on what is important to us and phase out inconsequential things… but we do! Other than having quite a few other jobs the Reticular Activating System (RAS) at the base of our brains is responsible for allowing us to focus on what is important to us. You can check out a short video on it here. (https://youtu.be/QCnfAzAIhVw)

Have you ever wanted something with all your energy, maybe like a puppy? Once you make that decision and focus on it all the sudden it’s like everywhere you look there are puppies or people with dogs. You can’t help but see them. They’re on TV, your friend just got one, you step out your front door and every single person on the block seems to be walking one. You have a predilection for a certain breed of dog and then you just happen to see that one everywhere. Canines seem to be coming out of the woodwork. Once you get that pup you notice everyone else who has one more easily, it’s like it jumps out at you! After a time once you get what you want, or decide you want something else this phenomena sort of dies down or fades off into the background until you fire it up again. The same thing happens when you want a specific car, or when you’re feeling lonely and are longing for a partner in life. That’s your RAS at work focusing your conscious and also, sub-conscious mind in on what you desire.

So, we have this law, we have the tool of our Reticular Activating System, and we’ve learned how to execute. The law allows us the assurance that we can attract things into our life that we focus on, our RAS is the tool which allows us to do as such, and our ability to execute is how we can physically bring ourselves to the summit of those achievements. It’s a near perfect system. Though we must be careful during implementation. Things can always be used in a positive manner or a negative manner. The double-edged sword here is that you can also tune your RAS to things you don’t want to happen via your fears or conditioned responses in accordance with them. The law of attraction will not be able to separate positive from negative as it brings only what you focus on. Each of these will have an impact on your desire and ability to execute.

A positive mindset is a necessity if you’re going to live your dream life. Negativity tends to creep in at times and our self-awareness is our best way to recognize that. That negativity will rear its ugly head time after time and that’s ok, it is part of the human condition. What separates the successful from the unsuccessful is what we do when we recognize that. It’s not always easy to be positive, but the things that are easiest tend to be what average people do. Since you’re reading this I’m guessing you’re not the average person. Start tuning your mind to the positive things you desire in your life and then get out there and execute! Once you have made the right moves and have the right mindset you’ll recognize the law of attraction. Things will serendipitously go your way and you’ll feel a flow and momentum like you’ve never known. Get after it!
